    Abstract
The present work is an attempt at studying mathematical terms and concepts in English, Russian, and Telugu, with special reference to the field of degree-level Algebra, from a contrastive linguistic perspective. The purpose of the work is to help understand and develop structural models for a given pair of languages used in the description of science. The work, the first six chapters of which have been cast in the form of a linguistic ready-reference manual in the field of Algebra, does not seek to disestablish and disregard available bilingual scientific and technical lexicons, but it tries to be a useful complement to them in the concerned subject area. However, it tries to emphasize the point that bilingual scientific and technical lexicons should incorporate in themselves a greater amount of linguistic information (lexico-grammatical) than what has already been contained in them, in order for them to be able to provide exact and precise semantic/conceptual information in the concerned subject. The work does not venture to evolve a new linguistic theory, but it earnestly tries to critically evaluate three linguistic theories, viz. TG (Transformational Generative Grammar), SG (Systemic Grammar), and PC (Phrase-structure, C-structure Grammar), merely from the practical point of view of applying them in the field of 'contrastive linguistics' (Comparative Descriptive Linguistics). And this attempt at a critical evaluation of two occidental and one oriental linguistic theory may be looked upon as a humble contribution of the work in the field of applied contrastive linguistics. Also, the work makes an attempt at describing an elementary method of using the computer for linguistic data processing.
