Studies on the resistance to the flow of water in curved pipes and pipe bends
Abstract
This thesis contains the theoretical and experimental
investigations carried out by the author on the resistance offered
to the flow of water curved curved pipes and pipe bends The thesis
is in three parts In Part I » a comprehensive review
of the present status of knowledge on the subject is made.
This part is entitled as "Literature Survey" and constitutes part
of the library research conducted. In Part III , the analytical
investigations carried out by the author are presented.
In Part I I I , the experimental investigations carried out in
order to confirm the validity of the analysis presented in
Part I I are described. In addition, some theoretical conclusions
are checked with data already available from other sources.
Rational formulae for computing the loss of pressure head have
been put forth, based on the theoretical and experimental
investigations conducted. It is hoped that these formulae may
be of utility to the practicing engineer. Regions in which
further investigations are necessary have been indicated in a
problem in which the yet unsolved problems of turbulence,
separation phenomena, and three-dimensional boundary layer flow
are involved
