The research reported in this thesis has attempted to provide a suggestive ethnographic case study of an R&D team in a government-sponsored power research institute in Southern India. This case study has tried to demonstrate the methodological viability of a qualitative approach to the study of organizational life. We believe that such an approach results in a 'thick description', which captures the richness and complexity of organizational cultures more adequately than survey-based quantitative approaches do. The aims of this concluding chapter are to summarize the main findings of this research, discuss some general issues arising from this investigation, and finally propose lines of enquiry for further research in Indian organizational settings.
