dc.description.abstract | The present thesis portrays the rational design and successful synthesis of platinum(II) complexes for achieving photoactivated dual action anticancer properties. The research project centers on synthesis, comprehensive characterization including crystallization and mechanistic aspects of the photocytotoxic behavior. Basic theoretical investigations were carried out to get an overview of frontier orbitals and photophysical properties. Photobiological aspects of synthesized complexes such as interactions with DNA, photoactivated cleavage of double-stranded DNA, in vitro photo-induced ROS generation and cytotoxicity, mode of cell death and mechanism of action in inducing cell death were studied. Intracellular fate of red fluorescent complexes along with mechanistic investigations of cellular incorporation pathways were also investigated. | en_US |
