The thesis describes the study of arene-tethered and untethered Ru half-sandwich complexes as catalysts in the addition of hydroelements (E‒H, E = H, B, Si) across unsaturated C-C, C-N and C-O bonds and transfer hydrogenation which are two key reactions catalyzed by transition metal complexes. The transfer hydrogenation of ketones, hydrosilylation of imines, and hydroboration of vinyl arenes and aryl alkynes have been studied. Utilizing naturally occurring amino-acids, chiral (N-heterocyclic) NHC ligands and their Ir-NHC complexes were synthesized for asymmetric hydrosilylation of ketiminesen_US
