    Abstract
In this thesis we address a few such problems involving the microscopic theory of strongly correlated electrons using the d-tca or local approximation. The rest of this Chapter is organised as follows: we summarise the basic assumptions/features of Fermi liquid theory in the next section followed by a summary of the standard microscopic approaches to the strong correlation problem. This leads on to a discussion of the d-tca approach which forms the basis for our calculations. We end with a summary of the problems studied in this thesis, our motivation and principal results.
