This thesis comprises three parts. The first part contains literature survey, the second part the theoretical analysis, experimental verification and results, and the third part the development of a precision point gauge. In this investigation, a theoretical approach to this problem has been suggested which makes it possible to find out the discharge in the branch channel knowing the conditions of flow in the main channel upstream of the junction. The theoretical values have been compared with the actual values obtained and an attempt has been made to correlate the two results. The agreement of experimental results with the theoretical results has been found to be good.
