The important factors affecting air entrainment by flowing water are found to be slope and roughness. Results showing the effect of slope, length of the chute, side wall, and different conditions of roughness are presented in the thesis. Ratio of air and water concentrations are related to the ratio of air and water depths in flowing air-water mixture. Froude number and aerated Froude number have been related to mean air concentration values and ratio of air and water concentrations. Condition of roughness leading to maximum mean air concentration and maximum bulking have been investigated and results given.
