Fabrication and Characterization of Multilayer MoS2 Coated Etched Fiber Bragg Grating Sensors and Side-hole Packaged Fiber Bragg Grating Sensors with Enhanced sensitivity for Different Applications
Abstract
In summary, MoS2 coated, etched FBG sensors have been used for various applications. Firstly, the strain sensitivity has been studied; a high strain sensitivity of 6.3 pm/μɛ with a linear range of sensing response from 0 to 2500 με has been achieved in these coated sensors, whereas the bare FBG shows strain sensitivity of 1.2 pm/μɛ. Further, the temperature sensitivity of the bare FBG and MoS2 coated etched FBG sensor are found to be 11.57 pm/°C and 95 pm/°C, respectively, indicating almost one order of magnitude enhancement. Finally, when MoS2 coated eFBGs are subjected to an underwater acoustic pressure field, it exhibits a pressure sensitivity of 60 pm/MPa at 231 Hz, whereas bare FBG shows about 3 pm/MPa at this frequency range. The present investigations show that MoS2 coated eFBGs can be a new platform for high sensitivity applications.
