The aim of the project is to study some of the mathematical operations by coherent optical processing techniques with the help of gratings. These mathematical operations are namely: (1) Translation (2) Addition (3) Subtraction (4) Differentiation (5) Integration This report deals with the principles of coherent optical data processing, spatial filtering, and optical computation. Theory of grating as binary filter and mathematical operations, construction of object transparencies, fabrication of gratings by interference are placed in initial steps. The experimental setup, results obtained, and difficulties experienced are discussed in the end.
