We successfully designed and synthesized a series of thiophene based luminophores. We were able to modulate the optical band gap of these luminophores by systematically fine-tuning the chemical structure of these compounds. Introduction of electron deficient ammonium moiety in the terminal phenyl units increase the optical band gap compared to the parent compound with electron donating amine unit. In sharp contrast, creating an electron deficient functional unit in the central thiophene moiety by oxidizing the sulfur to 28 sulfone significantly reduced the optical band gap and show absorption band at 600 nm. The optical and electronic properties of 1-3 were analyzed and they were observed to have broad emissive features. Preliminary studies MTT and Flow Cytometry Analysis were performed for 1-3 and their confocal images were recorded in Hela cells, in which compound 2 showed emission in red channel effectivelyen_US
